A quieter publication for a fuller life.
Plume explores natural health through the lens of adult life: layered, social, imperfect, and worth paying attention to.
Editorial health writing should leave readers more capable of asking careful questions.

Our point of view
We believe trustworthy wellness information can be both useful and restrained. Plume does not diagnose, promise outcomes, or replace clinical care. We explain concepts, identify practical considerations, and acknowledge where evidence is mixed.
Our readers are men aged 30 and over, but our respect for context is broader than a demographic label. Work, family, culture, access, and personal history all shape a health decision.
Clear sourcing
We distinguish reported evidence, expert perspective, and editorial interpretation so the reader can understand the weight of each claim.
Respect for agency
We offer frameworks and questions rather than pressure. A reader remains the decision-maker, supported by qualified care where needed.
How we work
| Stage | Editorial question |
|---|---|
| Research | What is known, uncertain, or frequently overstated? |
| Drafting | Can a reader understand the idea without specialised language? |
| Review | Does the piece avoid diagnosis, guarantees, and misleading urgency? |
| Publication | Is the date clear and is the reader given a sensible next step? |
Editorial team and accountability
Every piece on Plume passes through named editorial roles. The roles below carry the responsibilities described next to them, and the editorial desk answers for what is published. Reader questions about who reviewed a particular article can be sent through the contact page.
- Editor-in-Chief — Sets the editorial agenda, approves every published guide and owns the corrections log.
- Managing Editor — Coordinates the publishing calendar, reviews sourcing notes and handles reader correspondence.
- Health Literacy Editor — Checks that claims are described at the strength the evidence supports and that medical limits are stated.
- Accessibility and Standards Editor — Reviews headings, contrast, alternative text and reading level before release.
Plume does not publish anonymous reader testimonials and does not attribute quotations to people who have not agreed to be quoted. Where an expert is cited, the citation names the organisation or publication so the reader can check it.
How Plume uses generative AI
Plume uses generative AI tools as an assistant, not as an author. We disclose where they are used so readers can weigh the material accordingly.
- Drafting support: AI tools may suggest outlines, alternative phrasings and plain-language rewrites of passages written by the editorial desk.
- Illustrative images: Many photographs on the site are AI-generated illustrations of everyday settings such as kitchens, bedrooms and walking routes. They are not documentary photographs of real people or real events.
- Human review: Every article is read, corrected and approved by a human editor before publication. Editors check each factual statement against a source they can name.
- What AI is not used for: AI is not used to invent quotations, statistics, studies, expert opinions or reader reviews, and it is not used to give personal health advice.
Generative tools can produce fluent text that is wrong. For that reason a person, not a tool, is accountable for each published sentence.
If you notice an error that may have originated from automated assistance, tell us through the contact page. Corrections are logged and dated, as described in the editorial policy.
